That Kind of Mom

As of this evening, I am "that kind of Mom."  Allow me to explain.  Until recently, I took no thought in showing appreciation to my child's teachers during holidays or other celebrations. It just never entered my mind. A perfect example being this year's Valentine's Day party. I didn't see the sign on the door announcing it was even occurring much less did I have the motivation to make an effort to contribute to the festivities once I was aware.  I think I behaved this way partly because I was not entirely pleased with the care received and partly because of my ignorance.  Either way, my response when asked why I wasn't participating - "I'm just not that kind of Mom."

Recently, however, a switch in schools has opened the creative canal in my brain that I haven't seen since college.  We are so incredibly pleased with the teachers, the facility, the activities...everything at our child's new school. We consider ourselves tremendously blessed to find a group of people who truly care for children and their development.  And as a result, I actually find myself wanting to do something nice for the teachers this Christmas to show how grateful we really are for all that they do.
So, after much consideration and a with a bit of guidance from my much wiser mother-in-law, I decided to bake.  I made a pan of brownies and a pan of peanut butter fudge. The brownies of course came from a box.  The fudge, however, is from scratch!  It is one of the few candy/dessert dishes I'm actually half way good at making. I purchased the treat bags and carrying boxes from Wal-Mart and filled them with several pieces of fudge and brownies and Voila! I am "that kind of Mom."

It's important to note that I am still very much a work in progress. It didn't even cross my mind that it would be good to put nametags on them saying To and From. So, I improvised. I found white post-it notes and wrote the To/From, cut them down to size and then taped them onto the bags. A bit unconventional, but as I said, I'm a work in progress. :-)

Thanks for reading.

Don't sweat it! We are all a work in progress. Having been a teacher and now as a mom on the other side of it, I can say that teachers need to feel the love. Homemade treats and notes and even Starbucks cards are BIG love;) I too am blessed to have my kids in an amazing Christian school. I love the heart of our school and that makes it easy to love on 'me all! I'm sure your new environment will continue to make you feel like spreading the love!
